‘I can’t carry my own children’: Selena

Selena Gomez once shared something deeply personal about motherhood. The actress and singer, who is married to Benny Blanco, disclosed that her health condition would not allow her to carry a child herself.

She said the reality hurt and brought a period of grief. Still, she found hope in surrogacy and adoption.

In a past interview with Vanity Fair, she spoke about wanting to start a family with her husband, Benny Blanco, while acknowledging it would not happen the way she once imagined. "I haven’t ever said this ... but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children," Selena shared in an interview with Vanity Fair in September 2024.

"I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy." She explained that because of health issues, she would be unable to carry her own baby, something she had to grieve for a while since it posed risks to both her and the baby's life.

She has also been candid about her battle with Lupus since first speaking about it with Billboard in 2015.

Looking back, she said she once assumed motherhood would happen the way it does for most people.

With time, she found steadier ground. She added that surrogacy and adoption feel like real, reassuring options now. She said she feels excited about what comes next, even if it looks different than she first imagined. In the end, she said, she does not mind as long as the child is hers. "It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms.

In the same reflective tone, she also spoke warmly about Benny.

She said his desire to have children made her laugh because he could not hide his feelings. She shared that she has never been loved the way he loves her and called him a light in her life. She described him as her best friend and said she enjoys sharing everything with him.
