GADAG:Lokayukta law enforcement in Karnataka caught Chandru Lamani, BJP MLA from Shirahatti in Gadag district, allegedly taking a Rs 5 lakh bribe from a contractor, during a raid at his Balaji Hospital in Laxmeshwar on Saturday.
Lamani, a medical practitioner, was taluk health officer in Laxmeshwar, and resigned from service to contest the 2023 assembly election.
A team led by SP Siddalingappa raided the hospital and detained the MLA after a class-1 contractor, Vijay Pujar, lodged a complaint alleging that the MLA had demanded an 11% commission for a Rs 1 crore retaining wall construction in Sankadal village.
During the raid, Lamani’s PAs Manjunath Walmiki and Guru Lamani were also caught. Officials said they threw Rs 1 lakh into a neighbouring private school’s compound in an attempt to destroy evidence.
