Sivakarthikeyan's fresh film, 'Seyon,' faces a title dispute. Double Meaning Productions claims ownership, stating it was planned as a sequel to their 2022 movie 'Maayon.' While 'Seyon' makers clarify their project is based on Lord Murugan, the Producers' Council is expected to mediate. This legal snag has shifted focus from the film's rural action drama premise.
Actor Sivakarthikeyan announced a recent project titled 'Seyon' under Kamal Haasan's production. An intense teaser was launched to coincide with Sivakarthikeyan's birthday. The announcement created strong excitement, as the movie marks the reunion of Sivakarthikeyan and Kamal Haasan after the success of 'Amaran,' which crossed Rs 300 crore at the box office.
The film will be directed by Siva Murugesan, with music by
. However, even before the project moved into full production, recent reports suggest a title dispute has surfaced.
According to News18, a complaint has been submitted to the Producers’ Council claiming ownership of the title 'Seyon'. The objection comes from Double Meaning Productions, which states that the name was already planned as the sequel title to the 2022 movie 'Maayon'.
As a result, the announcement by Raaj Kamal Films International triggered a formal issue, and the industry body is expected to discuss the matter before taking a final decision.
The first look poster of 'Seyon' had already grabbed attention among fans. Sivakarthikeyan can be seen sitting in a rustic setting, wearing a vest, with sacred ash on his forehead, and holding an aruval. The look clearly suggests a return to a village-based story, something that has worked well for him in the past.
The title itself also created curiosity due to its spiritual and cultural connection, which added to the film’s early buzz.
While 'Maayon' centred on Lord Krishna, the makers of 'Seyon' reportedly clarified that their film will be based on Lord Murugan, making the title relevant to their story. Despite this explanation, the argument regarding ownership has not yet concluded. The movie project, produced under a reputed banner with a veteran lead actor and an excellent crew, creates great expectations. However, interest has now shifted from the film’s storyline to the dspute on its title.
